So I hope to post here more, I hope to use this as a motivator to push some of my hobbies a little bit. And with that in mind, I received a game in the mail that I kickstarted. Myth! Myth is a co-operative dungeon crawler, and I have been looking forward to playing it since I saw the kickstarter go up. The game is play centers around the heroes, each of whom have a unique deck of cards. The more the heroes do during there turn the more the big bad, in this case known as The Darkness, gets to do. If the heroes lone wolf it they will most likely fail in there quest, they need to work together to beat The Darkness. The main theme of the game is telling a story, so you will work to complete a host of quests that range from small to large, as chapter, act, or story quests. So here is an unboxing of what I got in the first wave. I will do a second unboxing when I get all the stretch goals. You can find out more about Myth at, http://megacongames.com/games/myth/.
So I got a box in the mail. The box weighed in at 10.5 lbs.
Now all the things in the box laid out. The things in this box are the base game, card sleeves for all of the hero decks, including the heroes that I have not yet been sent. Metal treasure tokens, hero tokens, and the metal torch bearer model. As well as the kickstarter exclusive story quests for the game.
Now for the plastic. These are the hero models.
The boss that comes with the base game, The Terror with 1000 Legs.
The mini-boss that, Yardu.
This is the Crawler pack. Lead by there captains, Stalkers.
This is the Gubber pack. Led by there captains, Muckers.
There have been some complaints about the Crawlers, as there is a Melee and Ranged version of the critter. When I pulled them out of the box I could immediately tell the difference, but playing the game for a bit, they were easy to loose in the confusion. The ranged crawler is on the right.
My first thoughts as I pulled everything out of the box was it was worth every penny spent, you got a LOT in the box. I was a little worried that the two packs of monsters would get stale, but having played I think I underestimated how easy it will be to replay this as you will not get the same quest/monster/trap/treasure/darkness draw every time. The only two concerns I have with the game are that, even though this is not the worst rule book I have read, there are problems with it and you will not be able to find everything you need in the index. Also that the hero and darkness boards warp, they have been fairly bad for me. I know that I can fix them, but I wish the cardboard used was a little thicker. This game is not something that I would expect most everyone to like playing, like say Ticket to Ride. But it is a game my wife and friends will play, a lot. One thing that I would be concerned about is the Alpha gamer, and depending on the group with, you could love or hate this game. Most of the fun we have had learning this game is with figuring out the combos we can do during each hero turn. If you like co-operative games, and the fantasy genre this game is a 10!
